Reverse Engineering
Production lines rely on the successful integration of manufacturing equipment with often-complex flowthrough processes. It can take just one component failure to disrupt the smooth running of a line, leading to down time and lost output.
The scale of the problem can be made worse if the drawings on which the failed part is based cannot be located. This is where PPSI Manufacturing can assist through reverse engineering.
We are able to create 3D images of manufactured parts when a blueprint is not available, or where its production predated CAD CAM technology, as the first step towards remanufacturing the component.
The failed component is scanned by our coordinate measuring machine (CMM). As it is measured, a 3D wireframe image is generated. After completing the measurement, we then dimension the wireframe and create the appropriate drawing ready for remanufacture.
What's more, you may not need to disassemble vital machinery and send a failing part to us for re-engineering. Our Faro Portable CMM can be despatched to site when you have scheduled machine maintenance. We will then scan the removed part, create a new part from the scan, and return it to you for insertion at another scheduled machine maintenance opportunity, enabling you to switch to the newly manufactured component with the minimum of production downtime.
